Morse, Barnes-Brown, and Pendleton has welcomed three new attorneys: Joshua H. Watson, William R. Schmidt II, and Kelly L. Hinkel.

Josh and Kelly have become members of the Corporate Practice group, while Bill has joined the Patent Practice group. Josh is an experienced private funds attorney and has joined the Corporate Practice group’s Private Investment Funds & Advisers (PIFA) team. Bill is a registered patent attorney whose practice focuses on patent prosecution, opinions, and related counseling. Kelly’s practice includes advising companies on financings, corporate governance, and entity formation.

Corporate partner Joseph Martinez will take part in MIT Enterprise Forum’s (MITEF) Spring Start Smart Class, which will run from May 23-June 20.  M0846610He will appear as a Guest Speaker during the third class, which will focus on legal issues for startups.  Specifically, Martinez will discuss the employment, financing, and intellectual property legal issues facing startups.

MITEF’s Spring Start Smart Class is an eight session program focused on providing expertise to entrepreneurs on how to launch a successful new business.  The program is structured as a hands-on workshop, and features guest speakers whose fields of expertise correlate with each class’s specific topic of discussion.

The Business Law Section of the American Bar Association includes over fifty committees with the PEVC being the fifth largest. Valeritas, Inc.

On February 12, 2015, MBBP client Valeritas, Inc., a medical technology company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative drug delivery solutions, filed for a $90 million IPO.

The filing with the SEC arrives one week after insulin pump maker Asante Solutions postponed its proposed $49 million offering.

Valeritas markets a disposable device that delivers basal-bolus insulin therapy for Type 2 diabetes.

In WilmerHale’s 2012 Venture Capital Report, Morse, Barnes-Brown & Pendleton, P.C. ranked 10th on the list of Top Counsel to Companies Receiving VC Financing from 2007 through 2011 and 9th on the list of Top Counsel to VC-Backed Companies at Year-End 2011. The findings are based on companies located east of the Mississippi River that completed a round of venture capital financing. This marks the 9th consecutive year in which MBBP has been recognized as a leader in the WilmerHale VC Report.

Valeritas Financing Round Tops VC Deals for Second Half of 2011 04/02/2012

In September 2011, MBBP client Valeritas, Inc., a medical technology company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative drug delivery solutions, announced it had completed a significant Series C round of financing of $150 million. According to a recent listing by Fierce Medical Devices this Series C Financing was the top venture capital deal in the medical devices space in the second half of 2011. Other companies to make this list include Intuity Medical ($76M), HeartFlow ($65M) , and AcuFocus ($65M), all three based in California.

Valeritas has planned to use the funding to support the commercialization of its V-Go disposable insulin delivery device, an alternative to multiple daily insulin injections.
