In a recent Forbes.com article, MBBP client Agrivida, Inc. is featured for their efforts in improving the biofuel pretreatment process through the implantation of special plant genes. At a specified time, these plants will begin to create enzymes that help to convert enzymes to sugar (and later these sugars into fuel) which “will advance energy independence while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing the rural economy.” Agrivida is very close to perfecting this process and hopes to release a strain of corn ready for testing by the end of next year.
