In WilmerHale’s 2012 Venture Capital Report, Morse, Barnes-Brown & Pendleton, P.C. ranked 10th on the list of Top Counsel to Companies Receiving VC Financing from 2007 through 2011 and 9th on the list of Top Counsel to VC-Backed Companies at Year-End 2011. The findings are based on companies located east of the Mississippi River that completed a round of venture capital financing. This marks the 9th consecutive year in which MBBP has been recognized as a leader in the WilmerHale VC Report.

On the weekend of March 22nd, the Venture Capital Transactional Issues and Documentation subcommittee of the Private Equity and Venture Capital Committee of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association met at the recent Business Law Section Spring Meeting in Las Vegas. MBBP Attorney and subcommittee chair, Jon Gworek, led a discussion featuring Sarah Reed, founder of the National Venture Capital Association‘s forms project, who shared her perspective on the NVCA forms project inception, early history and evolution, current makeup and internal processes.

Valeritas Financing Round Tops VC Deals for Second Half of 2011 04/02/2012

In September 2011, MBBP client Valeritas, Inc., a medical technology company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative drug delivery solutions, announced it had completed a significant Series C round of financing of $150 million. According to a recent listing by Fierce Medical Devices this Series C Financing was the top venture capital deal in the medical devices space in the second half of 2011. Other companies to make this list include Intuity Medical ($76M), HeartFlow ($65M) , and AcuFocus ($65M), all three based in California.
Valeritas has planned to use the funding to support the commercialization of its V-Go disposable insulin delivery device, an alternative to multiple daily insulin injections.

In Wilmer Hale’s 2011 Venture Capital Report, Morse, Barnes-Brown & Pendleton, P.C. ranked 12th on the list of Top Counsel to Companies Receiving VC Financing in 2010 and 9th on the list of Top Counsel to VC-Backed Companies at Year-End 2010 beating out firms such as Foley Hoag LLP and Bingham McCutchen LLP. Not only does MBBP ‘do more with less’ – having the fewest attorneys of any firm on the list – they are one of only four ranked firms with less than 100 attorneys in Eastern US offices.

On May 5, 2011, MBBP is hosting Legal Basics for Game Companies, a half-day seminar focused on angel and venture capital financing, intellectual property protection and licensing, and other legal matters of interest to Boston-area game companies. The event is being held at the Cambridge Innovation Center, One Broadway, Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA 02142. Registration and networking takes place on the 5th floor in the Havana Room starting at 12:30 pm, and information sessions run from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. In Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP’s 2010 Venture Capital Report, MBBP ranked 9th on the list of Top Counsel to Companies Receiving VC Financing in 2009 beating out firms such as Foley Hoag LLP and Ropes & Gray LLP. The information is based on companies located east of the Mississippi River that completed a seed, first, second, later-stage or restart round of venture capital financing in 2009.
